Feng Qing Dian Hong is a black tea from Fengqing in Yunnan Province in south-western China. Fengqing is regarded as the classic origin of Dian Hong, and it was here that this style of black tea was developed in the late 1930s. The name Dian Hong roughly means “Yunnan red tea”, where Dian is an old name for Yunnan and hong refers to the red colour of the brewed tea.

The tea is produced from the large-leaf tea variety typical of Yunnan, which is particularly well suited to full-bodied black teas. After plucking, the leaves are withered, rolled, oxidised and dried.

This is a Top Grade version of Feng Qing Dian Hong with a finer sorting, relatively small leaves and a clear proportion of golden buds. The tea has a full-bodied and very well-balanced flavour with natural sweetness and the warm, aromatic character typical of high-quality Dian Hong.

Fengqing has a very long tradition of tea cultivation, but became particularly well known for its black teas after Dian Hong began to be produced here in the 1930s. The tea quickly became one of Yunnan’s best-known tea styles and is today regarded as one of the classic Chinese black teas.
