This hand-picked black tea comes from the tea gardens around Sun Moon Lake in Nantou, Taiwan, where it is grown at an elevation of approximately 1,100 metres. The tea is produced from the TTES No. 18 cultivar, also known as Red Jade or Ruby 18. The cultivar is a cross between Burmese assamica and wild-growing Taiwanese mountain tea.

The area around Sun Moon Lake is particularly renowned for its production of black tea. Taiwanese black teas often have a distinctive, aromatic character with pronounced fruitiness, natural sweetness and less astringency than many traditional black teas. Red Jade is a particularly clear example and is known for its notes of ripe fruit, spices and a fresh, slightly mint-like nuance.

The whole tea leaves are carefully rolled, producing a full-bodied yet fresh infusion with natural sweetness, pronounced fruitiness and a long, aromatic aftertaste.
