Japanese sencha tea of Saemidori cultivar harvested May 2018. The tea is Ichibancha, first picking. Tanegashima is a smaller volcanic island, part of the Kagoshima Prefecture. Tea from Saemidori tea cultivar is mainly used in Kyushu and is a crossing of Asatsuyu and Yabukita cultivars. Saemidori typically gives a sweet taste, and so does this tea with a well balanced grassy tone.
Kagoshima is second largest producer of green tea in Japan, next after Shizuoka.
